THE ambassadors of City Hospice joined forces with local businessmen to help celebrate the charity’s nursing team on 12 May for International Nurses Day.

City Hospice provides palliative care for 550 patients with life limiting or terminal illnesses in Cardiff, in addition to services for patients’ families such as counselling and bereavement support.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the charity’s team, including Clinical Nurse Specialists, have continued to provide vital care for patients across the capital.

To show their appreciation, Spiro Borg, of Spiros Fine Dining, and Chris Macnamara, of The Brogue Trader, supplied quality shoe boxes containing a special afternoon tea. Inside were delicious treats accompanied by miniature beverages from Mark Douglas of buzbee’s.

The boxes were kindly finished with a message of thanks from the ambassadors, courtesy of Booie Sall of Harlequin Printing and Packaging and delivered in beautiful jute bags.

The City Hospice team received a fabulous surprise when ambassador Ellis Jenkins, rugby player for the Cardiff Blues and the Welsh national team, arrived at Ty Hosbis to personally deliver the gifts.

Ellis said: “I’m really proud to have got together with some of the other ambassadors to say a ‘big thank you’ to the team at City Hospice on International Nurses Day. It’s never been more fitting, at a time like this, that we say thank you and celebrate their exceptional care. They continue to look after people in Cardiff facing terminal and life limiting illnesses.”

Fellow ambassador Spiro Borg agreed: “As ambassadors we wanted to thank the wonderful team at City Hospice who remain on the frontline during this difficult time and it’s lovely to recognise them on this special day.”

Chief Executive at City Hospice Liz Andrews said: “We’re very grateful for the support of our ambassadors Chris, Spiro and Ellis. The fact that they have joined with other local businesses in Cardiff to support us is fantastic and we extend our thanks to Booie from Harlequin and Mark from buzbees too. It just emphasises the strength and support of the business community in Cardiff.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for making the celebration of International Nurses Day so special for our exceptional team. They really deserve it and the visit from Ellis certainly made their day too!”
