The painted boxes are close to Awel-Y-Mor Care Home, Penyrheol Primary School, Gorseinon Hospital and Frampton Road Post Office in Penyrheol and by the children’s playground in Grovsend.

“We have tried to get the boxes painted in key locations – near a care home, hospital, school or a shop,” said Cllr Stevens.

Added Cllr Curtice: “I think it is a great way of showing our support and thanks to the NHS, care workers and all of our key workers at this time.”

The artists involved in the project from Swansea-based Fresh Creative Co. include Karim Kamil, Robin Gunney and James Burgess.

The company have been involved in similar projects in Swansea such as the painting boxes with the image of Dylan Thomas celebrating the centenary of his birth in 2014.

“We were really happy to be involved in something that supports the hard work from the NHS and key workers during this difficult time,” said James.

“We have had lots of positive reaction from the local community and we are grateful to Cllrs Andrew Stevens and Jan Curtice for supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

Cllrs Stevens and Curtice, and Fresh Creative Co. have agreed that 20 per cent of the cost of painting the boxes is going to Swansea Bay NHS.
