A town festival that attracts thousands is to return for 2021 – after being cancelled amid the Coronavirus crisis.

Having had to postpone this year’s event due to the Covid-19 outbreak, organisers of Flint Festival have confirmed the hugely popular two week event will return next year.

The festival, which attracted more than 3,000 people over a two-week period last year, has been pencilled in for July 2-11 2021.

Among the scheduled attractions will be the family fun day to kick off proceedings at Flint Castle, as well as a dog show, Flint’s Got Talent event and pop-up restaurant before the Rock the Castle open air rock concert to bring the festival to a close.

The event’s return was approved by members of Flint Town Council during their online July meeting.

Cllr Michelle Perfect, who leads on organising the festival, informed councillors that plans were already in place for the town extravaganza to return.

She said: “We made the decision to pull this year’s festival as obviously safety was of paramount concern.

“In confirming next year’s event, we want to give people something to look forward to, a morale boost, given the popularity of the festival over many years.”

The return of the festival was met with unanimous approval by councillors, who praised the work that had gone in to ensuring the town could stage events next year.

Cllr Paul Cunningham said: “This is an excellent idea and the pre-planning has been exceptional.

“It’s sad that we were unable to have the festival this year but this will be an exciting two weeks and we go onwards and upwards – with the inclusion of the three day Rock the Castle event which is exceptional.”

Cllr Ian Roberts, leader of Flintshire Council and Flint Castle ward member, added his congratulations, praising Cllr Perfect’s “foresight and vision” for the festival.

Last year’s Flint Festival raised thousands of pounds in donations to good causes around the town with a total of £4,000 distributed.

Further details regarding the festival will be released in the run-up to July 2021.
