The loved ones of a man who died following a single-vehicle collision in Swansea have paid tribute to a devoted family man who was “the centre of their world”.

David Morgan died after his Volkswagen Caddy collided with a wall on Llwyn Mawr Road, Sketty, on the morning of Thursday, July 30.

Father-of four Mr Morgan, 68, who ran a scaffolding business with his son Andrew, was known by friends as Dai Swan. Although born in Newcastle, he viewed Swansea as his home, after having moved to the area as a child.

Paying tribute on behalf of his family, his wife Marilyn said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to spend the past 25 years of my life with my Dave – the past 15 as his wife –  and as a family we are all heartbroken by our loss.

“Dave was a larger than life character who would always lift everyone’s spirits with his quick-witted jokes and his effortless beaming smile.

“It didn’t matter to Dave if you were a beggar or a king – when he spoke to you he gave you his full attention and made you feel special. He was a kind and caring man, characterised by a Good Citizenship Award he received for saving two people’s lives at Swansea marina.

“Dave was my husband and he was so much more; he was an adored dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a supportive friend. Dave was our family’s heartbeat, our Rock, our Bampi Darling and our superman; he laughingly referred to himself as Chemo-man having successfully beating cancer twice. He never complained and made us all believe that he was invincible.

“Last night the whole family sat together thinking of words to describe him and as we spoke the endless stories instinctively led to hysterical laughter and tears of joy as we recalled a lifetime of happy memories. He was the centre of our world and his beautiful spirit has left a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

“It is impossible for us to express in words the deep sense of loss and heartache we feel but we are overwhelmed and grateful by the love and support that has been shown to us at this devastating time by so many people.

“Finally we would like to thank anyone at the scene that tried to help Dave, including all the emergency services.”

South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision or provided assistance at the scene, who has not yet given an account to officers, is asked to contact 101, quoting occurrence 2000272308.
