After a successful month of screenings, Street Food Cinema, Cardiff’s first dedicated drive-in movie and street-food experience, has been extended into September and October.
A new run of movies has been released for September, with tickets now on sale for classics like Pretty Woman, Thelma & Louise, Blade Runner and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. For October, the Street Food Cinema team is planning a two-week Halloween Horror Film Festival.
The Street Food Cinema concept combines drive-in cinema with a local independent street food offering which this month will include Hot Damn Wings, Smoking Griddle, Who Cult Donuts, Franks and That Street Food Van. Snacks and drinks will be provided by BoBo Soda Bus, Joe’s Ice Cream, Blake’s Popcorn and Flawsome Juices
Street Food Cinema founder, Matt The Hat Lawton explained:
“We had a great run through August – almost every showing was a complete sell-out. After a spring and summer of having to cancel events, it’s been great to be able to get back out and give customers a taste of what they’ve missed.
“For us as a business, and for all of our independent street food traders and producers, it’s been a real lifeline – we’re so grateful to all the people who have come out to support us.
“We’ve lined up another slate of classic movies for September – including some 80s faves that you won’t have been able to see on a big screen in many years. And we’re already getting excited about our plans for Halloween.
“Feedback from customers has been really positive – we’ve been able to offer an event that is naturally socially-distant but that doesn’t feel like it’s compromised by the safety measures we have in place. Everyone stays in their cars, booking and tickets are all online and food and soft drinks are ordered by mobile phone and delivered right to your car window.”
The covered drive-in site at Splott Market has space for 64 cars per show, and a ticket for one car (with a maximum of five people) costs £30.
Evening showings run at 7:30 on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
