A record 3,700 runners took to the streets of Caerphilly town centre on Sunday for the Caerphilly 10K, as the event continues to grow year on year.
A total of 2,500 runners took part in the 10K race, alongside 1,200 participants in the 2K, creating a fantastic atmosphere across the town.
Former Wales international and Caerphilly-born footballer Aaron Ramsey officially got the event underway, running the 2K with his children while carrying the King’s Baton ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
In the 10K race, Dewi Griffiths claimed first place in the men’s category, while Lauren Kennard was the first female finisher. In the 2K race, Rory Collins and Alesha Santos were the respective winners.
Thousands of spectators lined the route to support runners of all abilities, from those chasing personal bests to families enjoying the 2K event.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure and Green Spaces, said:
“The Caerphilly 10K continues to grow each year, and it’s fantastic to see a record 3,700 runners taking part. The atmosphere across the town was incredible, with so many people coming together to support the event.”
The event supports the Council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy (2019-2029), which aims to increase participation, improve health and wellbeing, and create more opportunities for residents to be active.
Following another successful event, planning is already underway for 2027, which will take place on Sunday 9th May 2027.
Entries are now open, with prices frozen until the end of September.
