With a few days to go until the 2025 Lloyds National Road Championships, anticipation is building as riders gear up to compete in the high intensity Circuit Championships race in the picturesque town of Aberystwyth. Riders will compete in front of the Welsh crowd for glory and the national crown in the second of the three-event championship.

    The stage

Friday 27 June will see the 2025 Lloyds National Circuit Championship get underway as some of the strongest names in the British road scene battle in a high intensity route through the town of Aberystwyth.

Riders will start and finish on the iconic seafront before taking to the town centre streets in an exciting 1.6km lap. 50 minutes and five laps of racing will decide both the elite women and open championships, and it will also provide numerous opportunities for spectators to cheer on the riders as they pass by.

Fans and spectators don’t have to worry about missing work, as the circuit race gets underway in the evening with the women’s race starting at 18:15, while the Open will begin at 20:00.

    The riders

The quality of British riders competing at the Lloyds National Road Championships this year is sky high.

Eilidh Shaw (UAE Development Team) returns, after finishing a close second in the women’s race last year. Also returning is Isabel Darvill (CJ O’Shea Racing Team) who rounded out the podium places last year.

Ben Askey (CC Etupes), will be looking to follow in his brother Lewis Askey’s (Groupama – FDJ) footsteps of winning the circuit race in the Open this year. Tim Shoreman (Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli), will also want to build on his fourth placed finish last year, looking to secure a podium finish this time around.

Many Welsh riders will be taking to the roads, looking to be some of the fan favourites for their home crowd this year. Megan Barker (TEKKERZ CC), Rhys Britton (Dolan Factory Racing), Anna Lloyd (Shibden Apex RT) and Huw Owen (Clwb Beicio Egni Eryri) are just a few set to get the crowd hyped and make a name for themselves on home turf.

Megan Barker comes into the circuit race as one of the favourites, having won the national championship circuit race in 2023. She said: “Winning the circuit nationals was one of the highlights of my career, it means so much and is always a huge goal of my season. Getting to wear the stripes for the next year is so special. There’s so much talent in the UK and all the top riders make an effort to come home to race which makes for tough but exciting racing across the TT, Crit and road race.”

    How to Watch

For fans not able to watch the races unfold from the roadside, you can watch along live on the British Cycling Youtube channel, Discovery+ online and TNT, plus a full highlights programme on Discovery+ and TNT. You can also follow along on the British Cycling social media channels. A full report and imagery of the time trial can also be found on the British Cycling website shortly after the last event finishes.
