Newport-based accountancy and tax experts Kilsby Williams, has entered its first all-women corporate team for one of the toughest cycling challenges in the UK – Cyclone 24.
Cyclone 24 is a high-profile cycling event, known to be the only 24-hour velodrome challenge in the UK. During the event teams of six get their wheels rolling, as they test their endurance levels during a non-stop relay cycle.
Kilsby Williams’s Diane Nettleton, Alison Hazledine, Dee Pattemore and Olivia Dyer have set themselves this gruelling challenge and will simultaneously be raising money for charity, as they step it up on their pedals for Cyclone 24.
The four will also be joined by Emma Jenkins from EJ Catering and Sarah Gatley as they face this intense mental and physical trial.
This is not the first time Kilsby Williams’ employees have tackled Cyclone 24. Back in 2017, managing partner Simon Tee and his team broke the National Cyclone Record when they cycled 948km within 24 hours.
Diane Nettleton says:
“At the moment we’re training regularly and are gearing ourselves up for the mental and physical challenges that will come our way on the 21st of October.
“Over the last weeks, with the support of Zoe Westerman, director of Cyclone 24, we have gone from strength-to-strength. It’s exciting to realise we are no longer novices and can ride at significant speed. We’ve really enjoyed the thrill during the corporate track day, and I’m sure this will be even better on the day.”
On the all-women team, Simon Tee says:
“To take part in Cyclone 24 is a brilliant experience and I know that the team is training hard for the event. I’m sure that on the day they will be more than up to the task.
“We have an incredibly active team here at Kilsby and a number of our staff are dedicated sportspeople. Every year, employees enter events that will push them to their limits while creating lasting memories.
“From tackling the 24-hour Welsh Three Peaks challenge or the National Three Peaks challenge, to triathlons and Cyclone 24, our employees are continuously encouraged to team up and face challenges from which they can grow.”
The members of the Kilsby Williams team are no strangers to physical challenges. Olivia used to be one of the country’s top sprinters, Dee is a regular hockey player and Alison has scaled Mount Kilimanjaro.
The event takes place on 21 October at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales in Newport.
