Acrylic Mirrors: A Sustainable Alternative to Traditional Mirrors

    Choosing the right mirror material

If you’re looking to invest in a new mirror, whether it be for the bathroom, living room, hallway, or maybe even a shed conversion, there are many exciting styles to choose from.

While the mirror’s design has many options, most don’t realise they have an alternative option to glass as well in the mirror itself – acrylic mirrors are increasing in popularity, and when you look at the benefits it’s easy to see why. Not only are they strong, light, and affordable – they’re also ecologically sound.

So, why does an acrylic mirror make for a good investment?

    Long shelf life

Acrylic is lighter, stronger, and considerably more shatter resistant than glass. That means your mirror will have a much longer service life than a conventional glass one, as it will be far less prone to accidents. This can be particularly true if you live in an active home where there is an even higher risk a mirror might be bumped or bashed off the wall accidentally.

    Recyclability

Though acrylic has a long shelf life, you’ll likely want to change it at some point and get a new mirror. But that’s no problem, because acrylic can also be recycled relatively easily. The old mirror can be processed and reverted back into raw materials that can either be used to manufacture a new mirror or it can be used in a variety of other things.

    Cost to transport

Something else about acrylic is that it’s very lightweight, which means shipping it is overall cheaper and better for the environment. The lower weight means less effort is required to ship, and it can be shipped in lighter and more fuel efficient vehicles. Not only is this good for sustainability but it also makes acrylic mirrors that much easier for you to mount exactly where you want them.

    Are there any downsides?

You may be wondering if there’s any arena where acrylic mirrors fall short compared to traditional glass models – and the simple answer is no. All you stand to gain are benefits from their more affordable price, ease of manufacture and shipping, and variety of styles. Whether it’s a functional mirror in your bathroom or a decorative mirror in your lounge/hallway you’ll find a wide variety of designs and styles to suit all tastes. The key benefit is that even the more ornate acrylic mirrors benefit from that relative light weight and durability – this means you don’t have to sacrifice style for practicality if you live in a busy home with family and/or pets.

    Making a sustainable choice

The switch to acrylic mirrors is a sustainable, affordable, and practical option for shoppers of all budgets. If you want a mirror for pure function, then acrylic’s high shine and reflectiveness will be just what you need. If you’re looking for something stylish and unusual, the variety of options and designs of acrylic mirrors will be sure to lead you to something that suits. Buy with confidence that you’re making an environmentally sound purchase.
