The communities of Rhondda Cynon Taf are invited join an event to mark Armed Forces Day 2022.

The event will begin at 11am on Saturday, June 18 with a parade around Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, and a Raising the Flag Ceremony.

Following this, there will be family and community attractions to mark and commemorate the importance of the Armed Forces Community in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

All are welcome to join in to watch the parade and the ceremony and experience attractions such as: a climbing wall, mobile cave experience, small funfair, petting zoo and entertainment from the DB Big Band.

The event is free to enter and the day runs until 4pm, so there is plenty of time to get involved and show your support!

Cllr Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Armed Forces Day is a very important day for Rhondda Cynon Taf and we are proud of the commitment we have made to our armed forces community, serving and retired.

“This event is a chance for us to show and celebrate that support and to bring as many of our communities together as we can to also show their support. It’s a formal event which also brings in family friendly activities so everyone has the chance to find out more.”

Exactly 10 years ago this year, Rhondda Cynon Taf became one of the first local authorities in Wales to sign the Armed Forces Covenant, a mutual agreement of understanding between the county borough and its Armed Forces community, serving and retired.
