The seed of an idea to raise funds for Swansea Bay’s very own cancer centre hasn’t half grown since it was planted almost 30 years ago. Every year, pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Clydach raise sponsorship to grow the tallest sunflower. The proceeds are donated to the South West Wales Cancer Centre at Singleton Hospital. And with the 28th annual show having taken place at the school in July, the total raised over the years is an amazing £67,000. A search has been launched in Wales to recruit a team of young disability champions to improve access at tourism and hospitality venues. Leading the campaign is a community interest company called PIWS (which means purple) which is looking for disabled people to become Access Ambassadors to check out facilities and suggest ways they can be made more accessible and inclusive. A North Wales-based engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy’s proficiency stands to boost the Gwynedd economy by more than £12m per decade. Caulmert, which has offices in St Asaph and Bangor, has helped secure planning permission for the extension of Bala Lake Railway. A Cwmbran man has been disqualified from keeping dogs for 10 years after he admitted to kicking his dog and causing unnecessary suffering. Jason Self, Cwmbran, pleaded guilty to one offence under the Animal Welfare Act. This was that he caused unnecessary suffering to a male English bulldog known as Bruce by the infliction of physical abuse. He appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on 3 October for sentencing. The National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth has played a key role in giving people living in Cardiff access to hundreds of thousands of radio and television programmes from the archives of BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales and S4C. Clip Corners, which have computer terminals in comfortable places where anyone can see and listen to the variety of programmes available, have opened in Cardiff University’s Arts and Social Sciences Library as well as Glamorgan Archives. Terry Rosoman, from South Wales is attempting to create the World’s Largest GPS Manhood (on foot) to raise money for men’s health charity, Movember On November 1, the 39-year-old will set off from Abergavenny train station and run 75 miles across the challenging Brecon Beacons to create his “Movember Manhood Masterpiece” on GPS.
