The Bangor on Dee Community Choir paid a visit to Pendine Park in Wrexham to perform a medley of popular songs, old and new. A local community event in the Riverside area of Cardiff saw people from across the local community flocking to enjoy a ‘Summer Fun Day’ last week, hosted by social housing and support provider, Taff Housing. A Methodist minister with a spinal cord injury has swum to France for a second time, 15 years after she first completed the challenge. Eleanor Reddington, 71, who lives in Colwyn Bay, completed a six-person Channel relay in 2009, having been injured in two separate car accidents. Her team landed in Dover after more than 16 hours at sea and raised more than £10,000 for the spinal injury charity Aspire. On Monday, July 15, Y Pant School officially opened the new ‘Rose Barnes’ building. The new building, wholly funded by RCT Council is named in recognition of their long-standing former Governor, Mrs Rose Barnes, who has recently retired. Sixth form pupils at special education needs school, Ysgol Y Deri, have raised £26,393 in collaboration with Careers Wales to acquire essential resources for careers learning. The initiative was spearheaded by the school’s Post 16 Transition Lead, Stacey Long, and Careers Wales’ Business Engagement Adviser, Geraldine Doyle, who recognised that students would benefit from site visits to employers but were restricted by transportation barriers. The ‘Bus to Our Future’ campaign was led by the pupils themselves to fundraise for a new minibus. Aldi has donated £4,500 to charities in Wales to help support those in need during the school holidays.
