A special film created by Cardigan Primary School in an animation workshop in Yr Egin S4C Centre has been shown in the Senedd and the Ceredigion County Council’s Education Department’s ‘Trwy’r Lens’ Film Festival this month. Year 4 pupils came to Yr Egin to create an animated film which discussed the good and bad aspects of using plastic. A beagle puppy found with a broken leg has found her forever home with her foster carer, following a court sentencing. Narla came into the care of the RSPCA last September with a broken leg and was subsequently taken into possession by police after it was found that she had been suffering as her owners had failed to provide her with vet care. Thankfully after receiving surgery she has recovered well and she was placed with one of the animal charities’ dedicated foster carers, who following a court order, has chosen to officially rehome her. An award-winning team that has helped revolutionise cancer treatments around the world has moved into a purpose-built new home in Swansea. For the first time, the research team based in the Cancer Institute at the city’s Singleton Hospital has a dedicated clinical suite where it can carry out a range of oncology and haematology trials. Ysgol Eirias converted a rise in demand for rugby training into sporting success. In just six months, more than 800 pupils at the Colwyn Bay school took part in weekly after-school rugby sessions. The surge in interest coincided with victory on the pitch, as their Under-15s team won the North Wales Cup after winning the Eryri Cup and reaching the quarter-final of the Welsh Cup. A 25-year-old woman from Skewen will be taking on her first 10K in memory of her ‘happy, lively and sporty’ cousin who tragically died two years ago. Ffion McCormick-Edwards will be running the Ogi Porthcawl 10K on Sunday 7 July and said her cousin, Kane, will be by her side as she crosses the finish line. Kane Edwards, who was the youngest of three brothers, tragically drowned in May 2022 after going swimming with friends in Swansea’s River Tawe after school. A popular social club which poured its efforts into becoming net zero is reaping the rewards. Ewloe Social and Community Club has successfully lowered its carbon footprint after receiving a grant from the Carbon Reduction Feasibility Fund. The Fund is delivered by Antur Cymru Enterprise with the backing of Pathway to Carbon Zero Ltd and Litegreen Ltd in collaboration with Flintshire County Council. The RSPCA is urging the public to consider adopting a pet instead of buying – as with its rescue centres full, the number of animals in private boarding has soared, costing the charity in the region of £500,000 a month. The charity – the oldest of its kind, and celebrating its 200th anniversary this year – says the cost of living crisis has left rescue centres facing an ‘animal welfare crisis’ as animals are coming into its care faster than they are being adopted.
