St John Ambulance Cymru rewarded the volunteers who have gone over and above for the charity at its annual Investiture ceremony on Saturday 15th June. Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is set to travel the length of the UK in a bespoke double-decker tour bus, galvanising communities across the country to demand election candidates end sewage pollution. Launching today, SAS’s Election Road Trip will highlight the dire state of our rivers and seas as a key issue for voters at the general election in July. A new National Library of Wales exhibition titled ‘Tipyn o Sioe!’ (What a Show!) celebrates the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) and the Royal Welsh Show. ‘Sioe Fawr’, one of Europe’s biggest agricultural shows, takes place in July each year and was originally held in Aberystwyth in 1904. It went to various locations until 1963, when it found a permanent home in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells. Photographs in the exhibition reflect how the show and agriculture have evolved over the decades. A talented young conductor from North Wales is following in the footsteps of his musical hero Sir Simon Rattle. Robert Guy, 36, from Wrexham, says he’s hugely honoured to be appointed as conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra where Sir Simon, the legendary classical conductor, started out as a young percussionist. Remarkably, Robert overcame childhood deafness to forge a successful career in music as a conductor, educator and entrepreneur. A crow who was rescued after becoming entangled on a Swansea aerial due to a plastic bag has triggered a renewed warning from the RSPCA about the hazards of plastic bags and litter to wildlife. The bird was spotted in distress on 1 June as he had become stuck on an aerial on a roof at Caeconna Road, Portmead, Swansea. It appeared as though the ariel had gone through its wing and was unable to escape – but it later transpired that it was a plastic bag that had caused him to become entangled badly on the ariel.
