The official opening of a new Howden office in Swansea was flanked by Welsh rugby legend Tom Shanklin at an event, Thursday February 22. Howden, the international insurance intermediary group, began trading from the new office in Axis Court, Riverside Business Park, Swansea, last month, with this event marking the official opening of the new location. A scheme to install new lighting along one of Wales’s most famous coastlines is nearly complete. Swansea Bay’s scenic promenade is set to be lit up at night from Mumbles all the way to St Helen’s sports ground. The popular walking and cycling route is used by thousands of residents and visitors every week. Swansea Council is in installing more than 300 energy-efficient LED lighting bollards along the popular walking and cycling route so that users of the route can feel safer during the evening. Hundreds of walkers have already signed up to pull on their boots and trek a 10-mile route along the Llangollen Canal to raise money for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices this Spring. On Sunday 24th March supporters will take on the ever-popular annual walk, which starts at the Trevor Basin in Llangollen, before heading over the world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and following the canal to The Poachers pub at Chirk for refreshments, before heading back to receive their special medals. Work-based training providers across Wales have welcomed the Welsh Government’s announcement today (Tuesday) to lessen the proposed cut to the apprenticeship programme. In its original draft budget, the Welsh Government had proposed a 24.5% cut, the equivalent of £38 million and 10,000 fewer apprentices able to start next year. Following a concerted campaign led by the National Training Federation for Wales (NTFW) and CollegesWales, supported by employers across Wales, £5.25 million has been put back into the budget. An all-Wales choir group have sung their hearts out to raise over £14,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance. Choirs for Good picked the Wales Air ambulance as its Charity of the Year for 2023 after it received an ‘overwhelming’ majority of the chorister’s votes. The not-for-profit social business is made up of 12 choirs, all of which are spread out across Wales. Over 450 members meet on a weekly basis with a vision to create a world where choirs are placed at the heart of local communities.
