Lily Phillips was keen to buck the trend and immerse herself in the male-dominated engineering industry.   Her passion for engineering started during her GCSEs after a female teacher introduced her to the engineering pathway and encouraged her to find her passion in STEM subjects.  Lily studied BTEC Level 3 Advanced and Manufacturing Engineering at The College Merthyr Tydfil where she was able to take advantage of the many opportunities on offer. New figures released this week (16th November 2023) by Welsh Government and Fly-tipping Action Wales (FtAW) reveal a 4% decrease in fly-tipping versus last year, as councils in Wales continue to crack down on the crime. Reported fly-tips fell to 39,853 compared to last year’s 41,333 incidents.  The report also reveals that Rhondda Cynon Taf, Newport and Cardiff were among the councils achieving the highest number of successful fly-tipping prosecutions in Wales; while the highest-performing councils for issuing fixed penalty notices (FPNs) — fines to those whose waste was found to be fly-tipped — were Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, and Blaenau Gwent.  …

TWO Barry residents have been prosecuted for mistreating dogs, following an investigation by the Vale of Glamorgan Council. It related to concerns that puppies and dogs were being kept in very poor conditions at a house and that this property was potentially being used for illegal dog breeding.Shared Regulatory Services (SRS), which carries out trading standards work in the Vale, Cardiff and Bridgend Local Authority areas, brought a case against Dominic Fouracre and Rachel Lewis. RSPCA Cymru has launched a second appeal for information to try and find the owner of a mare and her foal removed from Gelligaer and Merthyr Common. The mare and foal were removed due to concerns for their welfare on Wednesday 8 November.
