People looking forward to attending this Sunday’s Christmas parade in Swansea city centre are being urged to plan ahead. It will feature a vibrant mix of local community groups, dancers, bands, choirs, floats, inflatables, light-up characters, princesses and superheroes – all joining Santa Claus to switch on the city centre’s Christmas lights. The finalists for the 2023 Sport Pembrokeshire awards have been announced. Good progress has been made in the early stages of building a new school for Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llyn y Forwyn in Ferndale – and a group of pupils and staff were recently invited to the new site for a closer look. Contractor Wynne Construction started work on site in June 2023, to deliver the new facilities for the existing Welsh Medium Primary School. A 6 week consultation focusing on the future of Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre will commence next week. Caerphilly county borough council’s Cabinet has this week agreed to seek feedback from the community on plans to permanently close the facility. The consultation will launch on Monday 20th November and run until Wednesday 3rd January 2024. The council will organise a number of face-to-face and online drop-in sessions, as well as targeted engagement with existing users of the 3G facility and other key stakeholders. Foodbanks provide emergency food and support to families and individuals who find themselves in financial crisis. They rely heavily upon donations, particularly over Christmas, and have seen demand for their support increase because of the current cost of living crisis. Phase two of the renovation of the old YMCA building in Pontmorlais is now almost complete. The Grade II Listed building, which has been derelict for more than two decades, has now been stabilised and made completely watertight. Works have included: Timber lintels exchanged for new concrete lintels. The rebuilding of the north section of the building, with timber floors and walls to support the new temporary roof.
