Cardiff Council has announced that Kier has been selected as the preferred bidder to construct new accommodation for ‘Ysgol Cynefin’, formerly known asThe Court School. Revised plans for Pentywn Leisure Centre will be presented to the local community at two drop-in events next week. The events will take place at Pentwyn Leisure Centre on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th March from 10am – 6pm. The plans, which have been revised following Cardiff Rugby’s recent decision to withdraw from the centre, include a 25-metre swimming pool. Fifty Young Ambassadors from six Secondary Schools recently attended Sport Pembrokeshire Young Ambassador training and two successful local athletes were on hand to provide inspiration for the future. Young Ambassadors is a youth leadership movement aimed at developing future leaders through sport, physical activity and play. Young Ambassadors will use their role to inspire, influence, lead, and mentor within and across education and communities, to connect and support society to be healthy and active. The first phase of repair work to the pictured wall at Salem Terrace, Llwynypia, will start next week. The masonry wall requires essential work, which will take place over two weeks from Monday, March 25.The work has been scheduled during the school Easter holiday to minimise disruption, and will be completed by April 5. A housing market projection report for Bridgend County Borough has found that more than 2,800 new social and affordable homes are going to be needed to meet demand over the next decade. The report, which was discussed by Cabinet, found that an additional 2,834 social and affordable homes are needed by 2033 to meet local demand. The majority of these are located in the Bridgend town, Pyle, Kenfig Hill, Cornelly and Porthcawl areas, with one-bedroom homes and flats accounting for just under 40 per cent of the expected demand. An appeal will be launched on Friday to support an exciting £4 million project to redevelop Talyllyn Railway, the world’s first preserved railway, at Tywyn in Mid Wales. The ‘Preserving our Past, Building Our Future’ project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, proposes major redevelopment of facilities at Tywyn Pendre and Wharf stations to carry the railway into the future.
