A PORT Talbot man who fly-tipped green waste near the centre of the town and failed to pay a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) ended up being sentenced to pay a fine, costs and a victim impact surcharge totalling £1,288.38. Swansea Magistrates’ Court heard David Edward Schwonek, 58, of Willow Grove, Baglan, Port Talbot, was spotted depositing green waste on land at Riverside Road, Port Talbot, on August 15th 2022, by a witness who took photographs and a video of the incident. RCT Council has provided an update on the Maindy Road bridge scheme in Ton Pentre, where continued good progress has resulted in the main work now entering its final weeks – around six weeks ahead of the original schedule. Penallta Reuse Shop celebrate a successful first year in operation. Penallta Reuse Shop opened in partnership with South Wales based charity, Wastesavers Charitable Trust Ltd. in October 2022, providing an opportunity for items once destined for the Household Recycling Centre to be reused and sold at bargain prices. Since opening, the Shop has successfully diverted 115,605 kgs of items from the waste stream and gotten them into the hands of those who need them. The Vale of Glamorgan Council has recently installed outdoor fitness equipment for the community at Wenvoe Recreation Ground. The facilities have been funded by Section 106 contributions from nearby develop ments for investment in community facilities at a cost of £60,000. Free car parking will be on offer at Powys County Council’s pay and display car parks for three key shopping days in the run-up to Christmas, the county council has announced. The initiative was welcomed by the cross-party car parking review group, which met for the first time on Thursday, October 26. The initiative will now be implemented by the council. It will see the council provide free parking at its long-stay car parks on Saturday 9, Saturday 16 and Saturday 23 December between 10am and 6pm. South Wales Police is investigating a robbery of a work van in Gabalfa, Cardiff. At around 12.35pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 31) we received a report that a van had been stolen from a driver on North Road, near the Gabalfa Interchange. The van was found in Tyn Y Parc Place, Rhiwbina, within an hour of being stolen. Fortunately, no one was injured, and enquiries are on-going to arrest the suspect.
