Newport City Dogs Home has won gold in two categories at the 2023 RSPCA Cymru PawPrint Awards for their work with stray dogs. This is the twelfth year that the team has been recognised with a gold award in the stray dog category for their hard work looking after the dogs in their care. Newport City Dogs Home also won a second gold award for their work with kennelling stray dogs. Daniel Gerrard has been sentenced to four years in jail for an unprovoked assault in Merthyr Tydfil. In May 2022, Gerrard, 41, while out with his friends at the Vulcan Pub accused a man of sexually assaulting his partner and threw him to the ground aggressively. CCTV footage showed that this was not the case, and that the unknown male was simply dancing within the vicinity of his girlfriend which Gerrard has issue with.
