You can now get married at this popular visitor attraction in Wales

Fonmon Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan has become a hugely popular visitor attraction since opening to the public four years ago. Visitors are drawn to its ornamental gardens, dinosaur park, medieval village and the many beautiful walks that can be enjoyed in the grounds.

Now it has a new offering: from Spring 2024, couples can tie the knot at Fonmon, celebrating their big day at a unique and hugely romantic location that dates to the 12th Century. Couples can exchange their vows in the Scented Garden, the Watch Tower Folly, or the Grand Library.

Fonmon’s wedding manager Zoë Binning has a strong background in advising on eco-friendly weddings and this will be a key part of the ethos at Fonmon. There will be a focus on recycling and local sourcing – including the option to pick your own wildflowers, grown at Fonmon, as part of your decorations and bouquets.

“Fonmon is the most incredible and unique backdrop for a wedding,” says Zoë. “It’s been a fortress, a hunting lodge, a party palace and a glorious family home, and it’s guaranteed to make you feel like nobility on your special day.

“The castle is set in the Vale of Glamorgan with its rolling countryside, picturesque villages and miles of unspoilt coastline, and its grounds are truly spectacular, combining romantic ornamental gardens, flower-filled walled gardens and acres of countryside – and there are some fantastic beaches close by too.”

She adds that, with public rooms that lend themselves to 40-60 guests, Fonmon perfectly fits the current trend for smaller, more intimate weddings.

“COVID really changed the way people think about their weddings and there’s now more demand to have a really special occasion with closer family and friends,” she says.

In terms of caterers, music, entertainment and the styling of the wedding, the Fonmon team are flexible and can offer trusted local suppliers or accommodate whatever the couple wishes to source themselves.

“We’re not only here for traditionally styled weddings – we encourage our couples to get creative and shape a big day that truly reflects their personalities,” says Zoë. “Fonmon is homely, not austere, and lends itself to relaxed weddings with a difference, so whether you want paintballing, cosplay, or to bring llamas to the ceremony, we’re here to help bring it all to life.”

The ceremony can take place in a thatched hut nestled in the scented garden, in front of the dramatic, fairytale-style watchtower which sits close to the castle’s romantic hidden Victorian garden, or amid the Rococo splendour of the castle’s opulent Grand Library.

Handfastings, renewals of vows, and other weddings not requiring a license can take place anywhere on the estate, subject to agreement.

“We’re very excited to be entering 2024 ready to help couples make their most treasured memories here at Fonmon Castle,” says Zoë. “We’re open for booking now, so get in touch if you’d like to know more.”
