Katrina Mahoney, 34 has been jailed for causing death by careless driving, while drunk, after she struck Ron Fealey, 82 on Christmas Eve last year. Mahoney drove her vehicle along Avenue de Clichy at 40mph in a 20 mph zone and had drunk twice the legal limit, when she collided with the victim Mr Fealey who was crossing the road on the crossing. She has failed to stop at the scene to offer assistance to Mr Fealey. She drove away with a smashed windscreen leaving bystanders to step into help Mr Fealey and provide emergency care. World-famous musician Sir Brian May has shared the experience of efforts to eradicate tuberculosis on a farm he sponsors in a lecture at Aberystwyth University. Backed by Sir Brian May, south Devon milk producer Gatcombe Farm has been testing strategies to combat the disease. A new ‘destination’ skatepark in Llanrumney has been granted planning permission. Developed by award winning consultants VDZ+A and Newline Skateparks in consultation with the local skateboard community, the new skatepark will replace the existing timber-framed skate facility next to Eastern Leisure Centre. This week, Cardiff’s newest secondary school opened its doors to pupils and staff for the very first time, as Fitzalan High School commences the start of the new term in its brand-new home. More than 65,000 free meals have been served to children and young people as part of Swansea Council’s support for families during the school summer holidays. The council made £250,000 available to projects that helped feed children and young people during the six weeks they were off school. Groups and charities said it had been lifeline to families and had prevented young people going hungry. All 43 applications for funding were successful and 37 different groups and organisations served up an estimated 66,000 meals or provided food vouchers. Welshpool Town have officially opened the Cymru Football Foundation (CFF) and UK Government’s latest successful project, the Wayne Evans Playing Fields.  Through the Football Association of Wales’ Grassroots Facilities Investment Fund, the CFF – with support from UK Government – were able to support the installation of three new junior pitches through a grant of just over £65,000, coupled with club’s fundraising efforts.
