AT LEAST 1,000 deaths from lung cancer in Wales could be avoided if a national screening programme for the disease was introduced, according to new statistics published today by Cancer Research UK. The new analysis estimates that hundreds of lives could be saved from lung cancer over the next decade as targeted screening, for those most at risk, could see around 2,400 more patients in Wales diagnosed with the disease at an early stage when it is most treatable. RCT Cabinet has agreed the details of a supplementary programme of highways, structures and flood alleviation schemes – to be carried out in the remainder of 2023/24 using funding that was recently allocated to the service. In September 2023, Cabinet agreed a wider, one-off £7.73m investment for Council priority areas – which also included parks and green spaces, town centres, leisure centres and accommodation for older people. This December sees Transport for Wales (TfW) deliver additional services and trains across north and south Wales and into England. With the next timetable period running from 10 December to 1 June next year, there are exciting plans to almost double the number of services on the Ebbw Vale line thanks to a £70million investment. Brand new services will start running between Newport and Ebbw Vale Town during the timetable period as a result of the investment.
