A third case of Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza H5N1, otherwise known as bird flu, has been confirmed at a premises near Newtown, the county council has said. A 3km Protection Zone (Avian Influenza), or PZ (AI), has been declared around the infected premises, to limit the risk of disease spread. Within this zone, bird movements and gatherings are restricted and all holdings that keep birds must be declared. The completion of the safety and improvement work on the Aber Tai’r Meibion section of the A55, which includes a new active travel route, has been officially marked by the Minister for North Wales Lesley Griffiths. A dog walker discovered the rabbits after they had been dumped on Thursday 13 April at around 9.30am. They were found on a path round the back of the houses down a trail near Trenant, Hirwaun. RSPCA Cymru has now launched an appeal for information to find out what happened to these two rabbits. A new, fully-funded development programme has launched across Caerphilly to help local people over 19 years of age, who work 16 hours or less, improve their digital skills and take the next steps in their careers. Starting on 15 May, the 10-week series of workshops will provide people with the necessary digital skills to grow their career opportunities or start a new business.
