Following the success of the inaugural GWCT Welsh Game Fair last year which welcomed 10,000 visitors, organisers have announced that the event is set to return to Vaynol Estate in Gwynedd, North Wales on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September 2023. As well as showcasing fishing, clay shooting, gundogs, game cookery, falconry, horses and hounds, rural crafts, food and drink, visitors were treated to a wide range of attractions. Menter Môn has launched an initiative which sees the use of sustainable and natural alternatives to plastics in the construction of footpaths. In collaboration with the Isle of Anglesey County Council, under the ‘Made with Wool’ project, locally sourced Welsh wool is used as a base to cross wet areas and repair footpaths. The wool paths have been trialled in locations across Anglesey, with local community volunteers and Cwlwm Seiriol building paths near Aberlleiniog Castle and Rhos Llaniestyn in Llanddona. Hundreds of walkers put their best foot forward and took on the 10-mile Llangollen Canal Walk on Sunday raising more than £20,000 for Hope House Children’s Hospices. The event saw walkers cross the start point at the Trevor Basin in Llangollen, before heading over the world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and following the canal all the way to The Poachers pub at Chirk for refreshments before heading back to receive their special medals.
