This week, Dr George Rose is graduating with his PhD from University of South Wales (USW). His research, into pre-surgery exercise tests has uncovered important findings for clinical practice. In collaboration with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Department of Anaesthetics and supervised by Professor Damian Bailey, Dr Rose analysed over a decade of patient data to better identify and guide care for patients who may be at high risk of dying or having complications after surgery. Access to Kilvey Hill in Swansea will be retained and improved as part of proposals to develop a major new leisure destination there. Skyline Enterprises – the company behind the proposals – says access to the hill will continue as now if the project gets the go-ahead, but with some public safety restrictions around certain areas. BATS, oysters and bumblebees are among the rare species in Wales that are set to benefit from £3.78 million in Welsh Government conservation funding. The Nature Networks Fund has awarded grants to 17 projects that will improve the condition and resilience of Wales’ network of protected land and marine sites. Croeso Pubs Ltd, the south Wales pub chain which already runs five successful city centre venues including The Philharmonic and Brewhouse, has added former Marstons Brains pub The Dock in Cardiff Bay to its portfolio.
