On the 5th of January, councillors in Blaenau Gwent will scrutinise proposals for the borough’s Pride in Place programme.

In September 2025, the UK Government announced that the Pride in Place programme will see Blaenau Gwent receive up to £20 million, over a period of 10 years.

The UK Government’s Pride in Place Programme aims to support communities most in need and the local authority has been invited to identify and propose the communities within their areas to participate in the programme.

Confirmation of the proposed selected neighbourhood area must be returned to UK Government by 9th January 2026 for approval and to start programme delivery.

To receive the funding the area put forward should be a single area of between 5 and 15 thousand residents, not be in an area that has already received Pride in Place funding and must have evidence to identify it as the most in need neighbourhood, according to the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) as the primary data source.

The report sets out 3 options for councillors to consider. Visit (Public Pack)Agenda Document for Economic Development and Environmental Management Scrutiny Committee, 05/01/2026 14:00 to read the full report.
