A new social housing development in north Powys has been officially opened by the county council. Clos-Yr-Hen-Ysgol in Llanidloes has been delivered by Powys County Council’s Development Team and was officially opened by Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, on Tuesday, 1 November. The development, which consists of 22 new council homes on the former livestock market in the town, was built by contractors J Harper and Sons (Leominster) Ltd. From today (17 November), motorists exceeding the 50mph speed limits between junctions 24-28 on the M4 could be fined, the Welsh Government has warned. Welsh Economy Minister Vaughan Gething has visited the CUBE centre, a community-focused and cooperatively run facility in Barry to mark Social Enterprise Day. Social Enterprise Day is an opportunity to showcase social enterprises across the country and show what makes them different from traditional businesses by addressing various challenges. The Welsh Government has announced that £180,000 will be made available to support the development of Welsh Language film and provide financial support to develop talent and ideas. Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, Dawn Bowden and Plaid Cymru Designated Member Cefin Campbell have revealed the funding will be delivered through Ffilm Cymru and further details which will be announced shortly. Climate Change Minister Julie James has this week (Wednesday, November 16) confirmed the cap for social rents for the next financial year along with a package of support for tenants. The Minister outlined a series of commitments she had secured with social landlords including that there will be ‘no evictions due to financial hardship for the term of the rent settlement in 2023-24’ where tenants engage with their landlords.
