Work to take down St Andrew’s Primary School’s key stage two building is due to begin next week. In July, Newport City Council revealed that the demolition due to take place during the summer holidays had been delayed following the discovery of bats. However, following the granting of a licence from Natural Resources Wales, work can begin sooner than expected. Although demolition may continue into September, it is hoped much of the work will be completed before the beginning of term to minimise the disruption to pupils and staff using the site. Aberglasney Gardens will offer special tours of the upper floors of the Grade 2 listed Mansion House during September as part of Cadw’s national ‘Open Doors’ event. The fully restored ground floor of the mansion was opened in 2013 by award winning actor Damian Lewis and is open daily. Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan has this week [17th August] launched a consultation on improving the experiences for many people using health and social care services. The consultation will seek responses on proposed legislation to support the commitment to eliminate profit from the care of children looked after.
