A new lifesaving defibrillator unit has been fitted to the exterior of the Coliseum Theatre, for the benefit of the whole community as well as theatre visitors. Funded by the Council’s Arts Service, the installation took place during National Heart Month, a national awareness campaign in the fight against heart disease and how to look after your heart. The defibrillator had previously been located inside the Coliseum Theatre and only available for use during opening hours. More than 57,000 unpaid carers in Wales will receive a £500 payment in recognition of the pivotal role they have played during the pandemic. The payment is part of a £29m investment in unpaid carers from the Welsh Government and recognises the financial and emotional hardship many have experienced. Unpaid carers who are receiving Carer’s Allowance on March 31st this year will be eligible for the payment. An unpaid carer is someone who cares for a partner, relative or friend who has an illness of disability. Carers Allowance is paid to people caring for at least 35 hours a week,…

The First Minister has announced the location of Wales’ third commemorative woodland at Cwmfelinfach in Caerphilly. The commemorative woodlands are being created to remember all those who have died during the pandemic. The announcement comes as the Welsh Government marks the second anniversary of the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020. The site is owned by Caerphilly Council and it becomes the third location for a commemorative woodland, alongside sites at the National Trust Cymru’s Erddig Estate in Wrexham and a site identified by Natural Resources Wales at Brownhill in the Tywi Valley in Carmarthenshire. The Welsh Government has said the upcoming Spring Statement must be used to provide meaningful action to tackle the cost of living crisis. A group of filmmakers from the University of South Wales (USW) are giving back to a Rhondda valleys community with their latest project.
