A three-storey historic village cottage with views over the River Dyfi in Powys sold for £100,000 at auction.

The delightful property, in the hamlet of Forge close to the bustling art and cultural centre of Machynlleth, was listed with a guide price of £75,000.

Sean Roper, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said: “The sale presented a rare and wonderful opportunity to acquire a truly delightful and intriguing, three storey cottage of quality in what is a wonderful location.

“The property, 2 Bontfaen, Forge, offers the new owner plenty of scope to improve but nevertheless, has a wealth of intrinsic character which any future improvement will surely compliment.

“With a log burner, fascinating staircases and balustrade, modern Shaker-style kitchen and cute and charming, manageable rear garden, the cottage has two bedrooms and stunning views over the River Dyfi below.

“The property lies just south of the ancient capital of Wales and seat of Owain Glyndwr, the bustling market town of Machynlleth, which benefits from a wide range of shops and amenities. It’s renowned for its art galleries, its music and comedy festivals.

“The online auction generated huge interest with a total of five individual bidders lodging some twenty bids before the lot eventually sold for £100,000.”
