Due to a national shortage of drivers, Bridgend County Borough Council has warned it is experiencing some difficulties with home-to-school transport. Although the impact on school transport in the county borough is currently minimal, affecting a small number of pupils only, any further staff shortages may impact upon the local authority’s ability to transport some pupils in the future. Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Environmental Health team is issuing some general advice to residents, following confirmation of potentially harmful blue-green algae in Pen y Fan Pond. The algae produces toxins which can be harmful to both humans and animals. Residents are advised to ensure pets, particularly dogs, do not enter the water of the Pond – should pets come in contact with the water, owners are advised to thoroughly wash the animal with clean water and seek precautionary advice from a qualified vet. Over 80,000 people have so far visited the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, in 2021 – making this the second busiest year at the much-loved facility since it reopened in 2015, despite the public health restrictions which have remained in place to limit the spread of COVID-19. A 25-year-old from Blaenafon in Torfaen has launched a lifestyle business combining fitness coaching and an active wear brand, inspired by her own love of dance.
