Local charities in Wales helped Aldi donate 118,506 meals to people in need over the summer school holidays. The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and foodbanks to donate surplus food, with the majority of meals going to causes supporting families and children. The donation is part of Aldi’s commitment to donate 10 million meals across the country in 2021, in partnership with community giving platform Neighbourly. Pembrokeshire County Council’s offices in Haverfordwest will be lit up in purple on Monday (6th September) in support of Pembrokeshire’s 12,000 WASPI women (Women Against State Pension Injustice). A 100% electric bus is heading for Swansea to share the climate emergency message – and businesses across the city can be part of it. The Carbon Battle Bus is on a UK-wide tour thanks to sustainability organisation Planet Mark and it will be parked outside the Guildhall for the afternoon of September 13. Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is planning a redevelopment of the Leisure Centre pools and nearby skate park. A leading UK leisure facility developer which has been assessing the problems with the pools is producing a feasibility report with costs and timeframes. The Council and leisure centre manager Wellbeing@Merthyr (Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Trust) will then consult the community on the proposals. The swimming pools closed in December 2019 due to a large number of tiles coming loose. Over £1.9m of funding is being awarded to organisations across Wales to help tackle food poverty and addressing food insecurity within local communities. Registered child care premises in Wales will benefit from 100% non-domestic rates relief for an additional three years, the Deputy Minister for Social Services Julie Morgan has announced. The extension of the rates relief, until 31 March 2025, will provide £9.7m of additional support for registered childcare premises. This will help those who are facing financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic and secure the level of provision that children and parents need and rely on.
