Hundreds of people have supported City Hospice’s Forever Flowers campaign in the first few weeks since the launch. The campaign invites supporters to purchase a limited-edition flower, designed and expertly crafted by the British Ironworks Centre, to remember cherished family members, friends and loved ones. Just a few weeks after the launch, over 700 Forever Flowers have already been sold at £18 per flower. Children, young people and their families will get help to manage their weight when a unique new service launches in Swansea Bay later this year. It will be run by the health board, with Welsh Government funding as part of its 10-year Healthy Weight, Healthy Wales delivery plan. Statistics show that around a quarter of children aged four and five living in the Swansea Bay area are either overweight or obese – with just over three percent classified as severely obese. Businesses and cyclists have welcomed an £80,000 new lighting scheme along the promenade in West Cross. The low-level, environmentally-friendly lights are being funded by Swansea Council, thanks to a scheme for smaller-scale projects in communities across the city. Each ward in Swansea is being given at least £36,000 to invest in new play equipment or other facilities as part of the scheme. A trio of high-performing pupils from Buckley are looking to the future after being named the recipients of a school’s science prize. Elfed High School students Madi Ion, Lauren Brocklebank and Max Jones have been honoured for their academic performance with acknowledgment in the school’s annual Synthite science prize. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB) is pleased to announce funding of £1.4 million from Welsh children’s cancer charity, LATCH, for the refurbishment of Rainbow Ward at the Children’s Hospital for Wales. Rainbow Ward is the lead centre for paediatric oncology in South and West Wales, caring for children and young people with cancer and leukaemia, aged from birth up to 13. The iconic Neath September Fair, which has been running for more than 700 years, has been cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The decision to cancel Neath Fair has, like many other major events around the UK, been taken early because of the significant preparation in advance that is necessary to stage these large events.
