Two businesses in Ceredigion have been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £1,000 for breaching the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (No.5) (Wales) Regulations 2020. The Ideal Fitness gym in Aberystwyth was issued with a fixed penalty notice for remaining open when prohibited under the Regulations. Following complaints from members of the public that the gym was open for business, officers from the Public Protection Team visited the premises. More than 6,300 trees and 600 metres of important wildlife hedge have been planted in the north of Denbighshire in the last four months, with funding from Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Government. As part of the PLANT and Well Connected projects the trees have been planted in the area between Kinmel Bay and Gronant, including at a number of schools. South Wales Police can confirm that Chun XU, aged 31, has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Wenjing LIN (alias Wenjing XU), as well as the attempted murder of a 38-year-old man. Chun Xu will appear before Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court on Thursday, 11th March, 2021. A 38 year-old man previously arrested in connection with the incident remains in hospital in a stable condition and is no longer being treated as a suspect in relation to this incident.
People who are or have recently experienced homelessness in Wales are to be offered a Covid vaccination as part of priority group 6, Health Minister Vaughan Gething has confirmed. The prioritisation comes as people who are or have recently experienced homelessness are confirmed to be classed as at increased risk. This is because they are more likely to have an underlying health condition which puts them at high risk from both transmission and the harms of coronavirus. CITY schools are set to be the main beneficiaries of a £9m pot of cash for essential maintenance and building upgrades over the coming year. A report to Swansea Council’s Cabinet reveals plans to set aside the cash for improvements ranging from 16 roofing at city schools to upgrades at a number of council social services centres. Pontarddulais Comprehensive is set to see a total of £670,000 spent upgrading its wiring and radiator networks including £200,000 for roofing repairs. Wales’ first electric-powered refuse collection vehicle has been launched this week by Newport City Council. The vehicle, which went into service today, will be used on collection rounds across the city, but in particular will service areas such as Caerleon which the council have designated as priorities in terms of reducing emissions to help improve air quality levels.
