The Welsh Government has today announced an additional £50m towards improvements to school buildings across Wales. The capital funding will allow local authorities to focus on large-scale maintenance projects, such as replacement roofs, new window systems or heating and ventilation works, rather than small scale routine repairs. One million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered across Wales and more than one in three of the Welsh adult population have received at least one dose. As of Saturday 27 February, data shows 916,336 people – over 38% of Wales’ adult population – have received at least one dose. Combined with the 89,053 second doses also delivered, 1,005,389 doses altogether have reached people’s arms. This has all been achieved in just 12 weeks. Madog Rowlands has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Lauren Griffiths. The 23-year-old killed his fiancée, 21-year-old Lauren Griffiths, at their flat in Cathays, Cardiff. Lauren’s body was found at the flat in Glynrhondda Street at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, April 30 2019. Madog Llewellyn Rowlands, 23, from Wrexham, denied murder but following a unanimous decision by the jury at Newport Crown Court in December he has been found guilty of murder. South Wales Police is investigating a burglary at the Co-op store in Countisbury Avenue, Llanrumney, Cardiff, which happened at around 4am this morning. It is believed that suspects used acetylene cylinders to gain access to the shop and cash machine resulting in a loud explosion and causing significant damage. A number of flats above the shops were evacuated as a precaution while the cylinders were made safe by the fire service. A Caerphilly nan living with cancer is to feature on a Mother’s Day card sold in Tesco stores across the country to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Kirsty Henderson, 52, has her inspiring story and photograph included on a card designed by Hallmark which is on sale in all large Tesco stores. It is hoped the card and Kirsty’s story will connect with and support people affected by the disease, as well as raising funds. A Caerphilly van converter has partnered with Caerphilly County Borough Council to launch a brand new fleet of fully-electric meals-on-wheels vehicles. Vantastec Ltd, located in Ystrad Mynach, has supplied Caerphilly Council with three new fully-electric Nissan eNV200 oven vans for their ‘Meals on Wheels’ service. The scheme provides 125,000 meals a year to families and residents throughout the borough. Each van is fitted with a regeneration oven that keeps food at temperatures up to 140 degrees centigrade, compliant with food hygiene and safety standards.
