Bridgend County Borough residents are being warned not to put anything which is highly flammable with their kerbside recycling or bin bag collections. The warning follows a small fire which broke out at the Kier depot in Tondu last night (Tuesday) and was attended by South Wales Fire and Rescue. The blaze occurred in the depot’s baling machine and was contained by Kier staff before firefighters arrived, causing a delay of more than an hour to operations. One of Swansea’s most historic buildings is to benefit from a £50,330 grant lifeline. The money has been awarded to Morriston Tabernacle to help it with the challenges of the pandemic. It will assist with the loss of income suffered as nearly all of the community groups have temporarily stopped meeting there and fund urgent maintenance work on the building. The grant was secured by the Tabernacle Morriston Congregation charitable incorporated organisation, working with Swansea Council officers to make the Tabernacle a community focal point for future generations. A lifesaving programme to help improve survival rates after a cardiac arrest is being supported with almost £2.5m over the next three years by the Welsh Government. The funding will enable Save a Life Cymru to raise awareness about the cardiac arrest chain of survival and fund new educational and training resources, including improving public access to defibrillators. Swansea University’s Oriel Science has welcomed the first school to visit its new city centre exhibition venue. The pupils of St Joseph’s Cathedral Primary School created Oriel Science’s first exhibit, Journey, thanks to funding from the Arts Council of Wales and with support from the Centre for Migration Policy Research at Swansea University. St Joseph’s inclusion in the exhibition made it only fitting that they should be the first school to explore the new location on Monday 7th June. Pembrokeshire zoo, Folly Farm, has upgraded its popular outdoor go karts to sustainable, electric models as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability. Folly Farm invested £160,000 – which was funded through the Welsh Government’s Economic Resilience Fund Phase 3 (ERF3) – on 18 new, electric-powered karts for its family-friendly Follystone racetrack.
