Publican John Les Tomos has stepped down as chairman of the Mold Food & Drink Festival organising committee after 13 years at the helm. [aoa id=”1″] John, who runs Y Dderwen-The Oak at Hendre, near Mold, has passed on the baton to two new chairpeople – Richard Howells, who runs The Olive Tree Delicatessen in Mold, and Gwenan Roberts, who has run the festival’s cookery sessions for a number of years. Entries are coming in for the Montgomery Canal Triathlon to be held on Saturday 18 May 2019. This popular event is organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal and brings entrants from across the country to cycle, walk and canoe the 35 miles of canal from Newtown to Welsh Frankton. South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 18:50hrs on Friday 15th of February 2019 on the A4229 South Cornelly by-pass. A grey coloured Peugeot 208 and a blue coloured BMW 330D were involved in the collision, the driver of the Peugeot a 30 year old male was conveyed to hospital with life threatening injuries. An award-winning Newtown business is investing £600,000 in an exciting project to regenerate the town’s Ladywell Shopping Centre. Successful groundworks and civil engineering business EvaBuild have begun work to transform the 8,000 sq ft former supermarket in the centre into a modern, open plan office that will employ up to 100 staff. Negotiations are progressing with prospective tenants. Work is expected to take eight months to complete and the company is renaming the centre as Ladywell Business Hub. Alexander Giles, 33, has been remanded in custody following his appearance before Llanelli Magistrates Court today (Friday 15th February). Giles faces 36 charges relating to offences under the Explosive Substances Act 1883, which relates to chemicals and components that could be used in the manufacture of explosive substances or devices. He has also been charged with three offences under Section 5 Firearms Act 1968 offences including possession of a Taser, two charges concerning the manufacture of Class A Drugs, and two charges of possession of Class A drugs. South Wales Police are investigating the death of a 76-year-old man in the Cimla area of Neath. Officers were called to the property in Lime Grove at 9:16pm yesterday evening (Thursday 14th February) following reports of a disturbance.
