NatWest Cymru lent more than £250m to Welsh businesses in 2018 and now supports more than 20,000 companies and start-ups throughout Wales. In a year that saw it help a record number of start-ups and entrepreneurs launch their own businesses, 2018’s lending figures include more than £71m lent by the bank’s Business Banking division to support Welsh SMEs. A further 300 entrepreneurs were supported by the bank’s Entrepreneur Accelerator in Cardiff, which saw increases in applications to both its pre-accelerator and accelerator programmes. The second half of 2018 saw increased transaction activity in Wales for occupied industrial units over 50,000 sq ft, according to the latest research from commercial property consultancy Knight Frank. South Wales Police is investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the A465 between Aberdulais and Resolven yesterday morning (23 January). A black Jeep Compass was in collision with a Scania heavy goods vehicle on the northbound carriageway shortly before 6.30am. The 52-year-old male driver of the Jeep died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The road was closed in both directions for approximately six hours to allow for investigative and recovery work. Speaking at the FUW’s twentieth annual farmhouse breakfast at the Welsh Assembly, FUW President Glyn Roberts has warned that the disastrous impacts of leaving the EU, the customs union and single market on 29 March are already being felt. Swansea Council is looking for specialist partners to run catering facilities at the prestigious Grand Theatre and Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
