A new Swansea University-led project has been awarded £3m to develop and manufacture sustainable perovskite solar modules (PSM) in Africa, empowering local communities and promoting sustainable energy. REACH-PSM (Resilient Renewable Energy Access Through Community-Driven Holistic Development in Perovskite Solar Module Manufacturing) aims to establish the continent’s first full-scale demonstration of next-generation solar manufacturing. An increase in the final quarter of the year saw the take up of industrial property over 50,000 sq ft in Wales reach just over 2.2 million sq ft in 2024, up from the 1.8 million sq ft in 2023, according to research from Knight Frank. The global property consultancy reported that 10 deals totalling 850,000 sq ft were transacted in Wales in Quarter 4 (Q4), compared with 420,000 sq ft in the final quarter of last year. A locomotive that entered service at Corris Railway in 2005, bringing the sound of a steam engine at work back to the Dulas Valley after 50 years, is having its second 10 year major overhaul. Corris Railway Society began fundraising to build locomotive Number 7, a modern version of the Kerr Stuart “Tattoo” class locomotive – similar to Talyllyn Railway’s No. 4 ‘Edward Thomas’ – on February 1, 1995. A modern development of 16 energy-efficient apartments is coming to Crosskeys to help meet the demand for affordable housing in the area. Not-for-profit housing association United Welsh is working in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Government to transform the site of the former St Catherine’s Church into a development of one and two-bedroom apartments. The homes will be available for social rent and allocated to people from the Caerphilly Council Common Housing register. With the country facing a number of weather and flood warnings, Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, has issued its own warning, and is advising owners to keep their dogs away from floods and ice.
