Close to a million visits have now been made to the Swansea Building Society Arena since it first opened in 2022. The attraction, developed by Swansea Council and part-funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal, is run by ATG Entertainment. As well as ticketed events, it also hosts conferences, banquets, graduations and creative learning activities. More than 50 young people have enjoyed the opportunity to try out new sports thanks to a Sport Pembrokeshire Community Clubs event. The event at Fishguard Leisure Centre for Ysgol Bro Gwaun and feeder schools was sponsored by Valero and held on December 1st. Local clubs and providers offered taster sessions of cricket, self-defence, rowing, dance, hockey, tennis, table tennis, rugby & basketball. Water was kindly provided for the event by Princes Gate. Significant restoration work is set to rejuvenate Cyfarthfa Castle, with major improvements scheduled to commence in January. The comprehensive renovation project will address critical structural needs and preserve this historic building for future generations. The planned works will include extensive roofing repair and restoration of the existing windows, along with interior upgrades designed to protect and enhance the historic building. An “inspirational” couple have given festive hampers to more than 800 staff as their pioneering care organisation marked its 40th anniversary in style. Founders Mario Kreft MBE and his wife, Gill, toured Pendine Park’s care homes, thanking staff and residents during joint Christmas and anniversary celebrations. Pendine Park opened just before Christmas in 1985 when the couple launched Gwern Alyn care home in Wrexham with just 10 staff and 14 residents – the beginning of a remarkable journey that’s shaped social care in Wales. Wales is investing in sickness not health, the Future Generations Commissioner is warning, as he joins calls for a dramatic shift in the way we spend our budgets. The Chief Medical Officer for Wales recently warned inequalities are widening, while Wales spends half of its budget on the under-pressure NHS and is not investing enough on root causes.
