Melting of glaciers in a major Alaskan icefield has accelerated and could reach an irreversible tipping point earlier than previously thought, new research suggests. The research, involving scientists at Aberystwyth University in Wales, found that glacier loss on Juneau Icefield, which straddles the boundary between Alaska and British Columbia, Canada, has increased dramatically since 2010. The team, which also included universities in the UK, USA and Europe, looked at records going back to 1770 and identified three distinct periods in how icefield volume changed. A 36-year-old man has been jailed after admitting to attacking a man and taking his belongings. Trefor Glyn Evans, of North Road, Caernarfon, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Tuesday June 25th after admitting to robbery offences. During the evening of January 29th, a man was walking home in the Afon Goch area of Caernarfon when Evans threatened and demanded money from him. Evams preceded to attack the man, punching him and kicking him in the head. He took the victim’s phone, coat, hat and trainers. A man has been jailed for multiple historical sexual offences committed against minors, including a number in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot area. Gavin Corcoran, 44, who most recently lived in Manchester, previously resided in Morriston, Swansea. In 2020 a 14-year-old girl came forward to police to report that Corcoran had sexually assaulted her when she was 10 years old. Two other women then came forward and disclosed sexual abuse by Corcoran on numerous occasions when they were children.
