Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, with more than 2,000 people diagnosed every year in Wales. But when caught in its early stages, the cancer is treatable, curable and survival chances increase significantly. A university graduate is urging students to explore internships after securing a role at a leading North Wales PR agency. Sophia Thomas has joined Outwrite PR as an account executive but is no stranger to the firm after completing a placement 12 months ago. Thousands of runners and spectators took to the streets of the Welsh capital for the 21st edition of the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon. A Gwynedd-based fruit and veg wholesaler is set to go even greener following the installation of new solar panels at its warehouse, thanks to a £60,000 loan from the Development Bank of Wales. Bwydydd Oren Foods provides fresh produce to businesses, local authorities and retail customers throughout north and mid Wales, from its warehouse on the Griffin Industrial Estate near Penrhyndeudraeth. Aberglasney is set to host the Dragon Bonsai Autumn Show later this month. The two-day event will include everything from advice to equipment for Bonsai tree enthusiasts and admirers. The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 October 2024. Thomas Gwyn Griffiths, 78, from Duffryn Rhondda, was found guilty of two accounts of sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13, and an additional count of sexual touching over a child under 13. His offences took place across a period of two years. Griffiths’ offences were discovered when his victim made disclosures of his actions whilst in school. This week he has been sentenced to 15 years in prison plus one year on license in the community. Contactless tap in, tap out ‘Pay As You Go’ rail payment option has now been extended to the Maesteg line from this week. Making it faster, easier and cheaper to travel, Transport for Wales launched the scheme in January on journeys between Cardiff Central, Newport and Pontyclun. It was then extended to the Ebbw Vale line in March and following its success it will now be expanded to an additional nine stations on the Maesteg line (including Llanharan, Pencoed, and Bridgend). A Ruthin nature space has been recognised for its contribution to supporting local nature. Llanrhydd Street Nature Space was honoured at the recent Wales in Bloom 2024 awards ceremony held at Abergavenny. Denbighshire Countryside Services alongside Denbighshire County Council’s Climate Change Team and volunteers originally breathed life into the old school field next to Ruthin Hospital in 2022, both for nature and for the enjoyment of the local community.
