Cyberbullying, misinformation and inadequate regulation of apps are just some of the issues youngsters say they are most worried about when it comes to online safety, according to a group of young people from Wales. To mark Safer Internet Day, the Welsh Government, in collaboration with the WRU, will host school groups from across Wales at an event in Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. At 4am on Saturday 28 October a CCTV operator in Bridgend has seen a Silver Skoda driven by Joshua Allegretto, 31, pull up on Highland Place, Bridgend, open the bonnet and remove a Lynx deodorant can from underneath the air filter. He is seen to remove items from the Lynx can and then sit back in the driver’s seat. At this point two unknown people approach the car and are seen to pay Allegretto with a bank card in return for a bag containing white powder. The youngsters filmed with new presenter Shini Muthukrishnan at Folly Farm for a series of segments on Blue Peter’s Book Club which will air on CBBC and iPlayer on Friday, February 9th at 5pm. The pupils will be showcasing their knowledge and talents when discussing their views on the book Poems Aloud by Joseph Coelho. The Welsh Government has this week announced that it is now recruiting for its popular ‘Cynllun Pontio’– aimed at attracting Welsh-speaking teachers to secondary schools in Wales. By being part of the programme, Welsh speakers currently teaching in schools outside Wales, primary school teachers, and teachers who have been out of the profession for five years or more can receive support to become secondary school teachers. RCT Council has announced it has appointed a contractor to develop the design of the innovative primary school and community hub for Glyn-coch – being delivered in partnership with Welsh Government by 2026. In March 2023, the exciting project was announced as one of three successful project proposals from across Wales to receive full funding of up to £15m from Welsh Government’s Sustainable Schools Challenge. South Wales Police are continuing to investigate a fatal collision on the A4067 Neath Road, Morriston, at 6:20pm on Wednesday 31 January. A 40-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a white Chevrolet Captiva. A 40-year-old woman from Kharkiv, Ukraine, died as a result of the collision and has since been named as Tetiana Martynova. Tetiana was in the UK after fleeing Ukraine when Russia invaded in February 2022. Monmouthshire School Swimming Programme has won the ‘School Swimming and Water Safety’ award at the 2024 Swim Wales Annual Awards. The awards held on the 20 January saw the MonLife Sport and Leisure Department walk away with the prize following a fantastic 2023. The programme aims to ensure that school swimming is accessible for as many children as possible across Monmouthshire, a collaboration between schools and leisure to provide vital life skills. Tennis courts at six parks in Cardiff will undergo a complete transformation for the benefit of local residents as part of a partnership between Cardiff Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). The tennis courts at Heath Park, Roath Park Pleasure Gardens and Hailey Park will all benefit from resurfacing, repainting and new nets, as will Llandaff Fields, Victoria Park and Rumney Hill Gardens, as announced by the Council last year.
