A 40-year-old Bangor man who sexually assaulted a woman in the street has been jailed.

Gethin Jones, of Garth Road, Bangor, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday January 10th after admitting to sexual assault.

On December 18th Jones approached a woman he did not know and put his arms around her shoulders, trying to lead her down a nearby alleyway.

He began making sexual comments towards her making her fear for her safety.

The woman tried to walk away, but he followed her, commenting on her tattoos and trying to touch her back, continuing to make sexual comments towards her.

The woman saw a group of people nearby and ran to them which resulted in Jones running away.

He was jailed for 18 months and was made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 10 years.

Acting District Inspector Andrew Davies said: “It is our priority to tackle violence against women and bring perpetrators to justice.

“I commend the victim who was extremely brave during a frightening experience which happened in the middle of the day.

“There is no doubt that this incident will have a lasting impact on her feeling of safety.

“I support the use of the SHPO which prohibits Jones from approaching and harassing women in the future.”
