Beloved gift shop opens new store in Newport

Glorious George, the much-loved independent card and gift shop, celebrated the grand opening of its brand-new store in the Kingsway Centre on Saturday, 1st February.

This local, family-run business is known for its distinctive selection of both seasonal and timeless gifts at affordable prices. Unlike typical high-street retailers, Glorious George prides itself on offering something truly special—whether it’s Banksy-inspired statues, handmade cards, or bespoke jewellery.

    A Dream Turned Reality

“The idea of opening a gift shop was first discussed at the beginning of 2024. It had always been a dream of mine to sell unusual, beautiful, and glamorous gifts,” said Vicky, the store’s owner.

“My fiancé and I came up with the name ‘Glorious George’ and designed a happy giraffe as our logo. We originally launched in April, sharing a space with Eazability, and the response has been incredible! Customers love the shop, the gifts, and the affordable prices.”

Following a successful first year, Glorious George is now taking a major step forward with the launch of its first standalone store in the heart of the Kingsway Centre.

“With a new unit becoming available, I saw the perfect opportunity to grow the business. This Saturday, I’ll be opening the doors to my very own shop,” Vicky continued.

“I’m beyond excited about this new adventure, which wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of my family, and most of all, my incredible fiancé, Jason. I love what we’ve built together. I love George—she makes me smile, and I hope she brings joy to everyone who visits.”

A New Shopping Destination in Kingsway Centre

The new store will feature an expanded range of artisan products, seasonal decorations, and personalised gifts, ensuring shoppers can find something special for any occasion.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Glorious George to its new home in the Kingsway Centre,” said a Kingsway Centre representative.

“This move allows them to grow their already amazing range of products and continue delivering the outstanding service that customers have come to love. With an even larger selection of cards and gifts, we can’t wait for shoppers to explore their new space.”
