A bride swapped the traditional wedding car for a train journey on the South Wales Metro last weekend, as she travelled to her ceremony in Penarth alongside her bridal party.
Bethan boarded the “Love Train” from Birchgrove to Penarth on Saturday ahead of her wedding to Chris at Penarth Pier Pavilion, turning heads among fellow passengers travelling on the Coryton line.
The couple, who are regular users of the route, said they wanted to include the railway service in their big day after seeing the transformation of the South Wales Metro network in recent years.
Bethan said: “Right from the start of our relationship, we’ve enjoyed using the Coryton line as a great way to quickly access Penarth, with its beautiful front and many great restaurants.
“Making the decision to use one of the lovely, new, electric trains to get to our wedding was one of the first we made. I know our guests were very surprised when they heard my plan, but TfW really made it special, so the bridal party had the best time and it got me to the ceremony right on time!”
Chris added: “Thank you for getting Bethan to the ceremony. For one day only, Transport for Veils!”
Passengers and Transport for Wales colleagues congratulated the bridal party as they travelled on board one of the new Class 756 trains, which have recently been introduced onto the Coryton and Caerphilly to Penarth lines as part of the South Wales Metro project.

Transport for Wales says the new Class 756 tri-mode trains bring increased onboard capacity, improved comfort and better access between the train and platform as part of wider improvements across the Metro network.
