A number of nature reserves, parks and outdoors spaces in Bridgend County Borough are set to benefit following a £580,000 Welsh Government grant approval.
Part of the Cwm Taf Nature Network Project, the scheme aims to form a collaboration of organisations in the region to manage the green infrastructure for the benefit of people, businesses and communities.
This will see green spaces undergo an audit and work undertaken in improving and regenerating access to high quality green spaces, and engaging with communities with plans to develop early years learning spaces and encouraging people to think about the way they interact with nature so that our green spaces are enhanced.
Green spaces in the following areas are set to benefit:
- Bedford Park Local Nature Reserve
- Parc Tir Iarll, Llangynwyd
- Parc Calon Lan, Blaengarw
- Ogmore Washeries
- Aberfields, Ogmore Vale
- Frog Pond Wood Local Nature Reserve, Pyle
- Tremain’s Wood Local Nature Reserve and Brackla Hill
- Maesteg Welfare Park
- Craig y Parcau, Bridgend
- Wilderness Lake, Porthcawl
The project, which is due to finish in June 2023, is split into three themes: Enable, Empower and Unite.
We are pleased that the Cwm Taf Nature Network Project has been successful in securing over £580,000 of Welsh Government funding. This is a testament to the hard work of our staff as they continue to go above and beyond in such difficult times.
We have all come to recognise the importance that green spaces play in our lives. If those green spaces can also be places of learning and growing, then we will be a greener and richer community.
The project will help Bridgend County Borough Council achieve its ambitions to be a greener council through educating children, working with communities and promoting awareness.
