Bridgend in top two county boroughs for recycling in Wales

This year, Bridgend County Borough has been listed in the top two best performing local authority areas in Wales for recycling.

The county borough’s recycling rate has increased to 72.6 per cent, which is three per cent higher than the previous year – a number which has also exceeded the Welsh Government’s recycling target for local authorities, which is currently 64 per cent.

In 2024-25, the statutory target will be raised to 70 per cent – a target that the county borough has already achieved, three years early.  There is a large network of staff that support the recycling and waste programme in the county borough, which even includes Education officers, who are available to assist anyone needing support with recycling.

Over the course of the year, Bridgend County Borough Council has managed to recycle a significant amount of a range of waste, including 8931 tonnes recycled at the Community Recycling Centres, 8342 tonnes of food waste, as well as 40 per cent of street litter.

This is fantastic news! To be named number two for recycling in Wales is a huge success.

I would like to thank you – the residents of Bridgend County Borough – especially, for all your recycling efforts. Working together in this way, is making the county borough a better place.

It is also important to note and acknowledge the hard work of the collection crews, waste and recycling centre operatives, as well as the staff behind the scenes, who all also contribute to this wonderful achievement.

Cabinet Member for Communities, Councillor John Spanswick
