Nominations for Bridgend County Borough Council’s Mayor’s Citizenship Awards are now open, and local communities are being encouraged to nominate residents, groups or organisations who have made a positive contribution to life in Bridgend County Borough.

The awards are an annual opportunity to celebrate a range of different achievements and previous winners include the Bridgend Music Service who inspire generations of young people through music, an electrician who has given his time and expertise for free to install defibrillators across the Llynfi Valley and a dedicated youth club volunteer who ensures young people always have a safe and welcoming place to visit.

Nominees must live or work locally and have shown the kind of values that make Bridgend great. They might have:

    •    Raised an outstanding amount for charity
    •    Performed an act of great bravery
    •    Regularly gone the extra mile for others
    •    Put the local area on the map
    •    Achieved something really special over the past 18 months

Cllr Huw David, Mayor of Bridgend County Borough said:

“The Mayor’s Citizenship Awards are a chance to shine a spotlight on the incredible people who make a real difference in our communities. “Every year, we hear inspiring stories of kindness, dedication and courage from across the county borough and it’s always fantastic to hear about the selfless contributions that local people or groups make to help others. “I would encourage everyone to take a few moments to nominate someone who deserves recognition. Whether it’s an unsung hero who works tirelessly behind the scenes or a group that’s had a big impact locally, these awards are our way of saying thank you.”

More information about how to make a nomination is available on the council’s website. This includes the option of completing an online form, emailing a nomination form to [email protected] or by post to The Mayor’s Parlour, Mayor’s Citizenship Award Nomination, Civic Offices, Angel Street, Bridgend, CF31 4WB

Please note that past winners can only be nominated for new achievements and people nominated for paid work must have carried out exceptional work beyond their post’s expectations.

    Nominations close: 16 January 2026
